New Banner Permit Application

Before you start, have all required information and documents ready — this application cannot be saved.

The fields with red asterisks (*) are required.

All permitees must comply with the banner permit stipulations.

Before You Apply:

  • All banners must have a banner permit issued by NYC DOT before installation.
  • Banners must promote a cultural exhibit/event, public or historical events.
  • Banners must be installed by a licensed rigger.
  • Vertical banners only with a maximum size of 3 feet wide x 8 feet long and must have six (6) wind slits.
  • Double banners must not exceed 24 square feet and must have three (3) wind slits.
  • Approved banners can only be installed on street lampposts.
  • Proof of $1,000,000 Commercial General Liability Insurance from a licensed rigger that will install, maintain, and remove the banners.

General Guidelines:

  • Permits for new campaigns must be submitted at least 45 calendar days prior to the intended start date for a minimum of 30 calendar days between the application's start and end date.
  • Only one permit allowed per borough.
  • All fields must be filled out in English only.

Required Documents:

  • Certificate of Insurance
    A copy of the organization's certificate of insurance valid for the entire duration of the permit.
  • Banner Creative or Graphic(s)
    The content that will be displayed on the banner(s).

1. Applicant Information

Please make sure your email address is correct. All correspendence will be sent to this email. You will be asked to verify this email address in the next step.

2. Banner Permit Information

Explain the purpose of the banner(s) or campaign.
Must be at least 45 calendar days from today.
Must be at least 30 calendar days after the start date.
Permit renewability is at the discretion of NYC DOT staff. If the issued permit is less than 30 calendar days, the permit cannot be renewed.
Dates requested are subject to approval. See permit for approved dates.
Maximum of 200 banners. At least 1 banner(s) is required.
Provide up to 25 location(s) where the banner(s) will be displayed. You must provide at least 1 location(s).

3. Banner Permit Documents

Must be valid for the dates the banners will be up. Only PDF files are allowed. Must be less than 10 MB.
Only JPG, JPEG, and PNG files are allowed. Maximum of 5 files. Each file must be less than 10 MB.
This is optional. Maximum 500 characters.

4. Banner Permit Agreement

Your signature below and its submission to the NYC DOT Banner Program will constitute your agreement to the banner permit stipulations.

The signature must match the organization's contact person or director name specified above.
